2024 Scholarship Recipients Announced
EPA has awarded scholarships to two students for the 2024-2025 academic year. The announcement was made at the annual meeting for members at the Lexington convention in April.
The $2,000 Jerry Jenkins Scholarship has been awarded to Sydney Brammer from Visalia, CA. Brammer will be a junior at Point Loma Nazarene University where she is seeking a degree in multimedia journalism with a career desire to “pursue investigative and human interest journalism.”
“Sydney is EXACTLY the kind of Christian journalist the EPA will want to support,” said PLNU journalism professor Dean Nelson, himself a former EPA scholarship winner. “She’s smart, a fast learner, loves Jesus, takes instruction well, lives by the highest ethical and moral code (which is the Gospel), and has set a high bar for herself journalistically.”
The Jerry Jenkins Scholarship has been funded by the best-selling author since 2016.
The Douglas J. Trouten Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 has been awarded to Maria Davis from Fairfax, VT. Davis will be a junior at Liberty University majoring in digital media and journalism with a minor in apologetics and cultural engagement. She has been named editor-in-chief of LU’s campus newspaper, The Liberty Champion, for the upcoming academic year.
“Maria is a highly motivated student, an excellent writer and storyteller, and I see a desire in her to serve the Lord and make Him known in her work,” said Emily Young, the faculty advisor for The Liberty Champion.
