Legacy Council

The Legacy Council is made up of select past presidents with members serving three-year terms in an advisory and mentoring role to the board and staff.

Diane McDougall

Diane J. McDougall believes that the best articles result from a trusting partnership between creator and editor. Her personal portfolio as writer and editor specializes in magazines — from the faith-based nonprofit world (EFCA Today, Worldwide Challenge and World Vision) to airline magazines (Ethiopian Airline’s Selamta) and higher-ed (the University of Virginia’s alumni magazine, Virginia). But she’s also worked on specialty publications for clients as diverse as International Justice Mission and the U.S. Postal Service.

Diane has served on EPA’s board as secretary from 1994 to 1997 and president from 2009 to 2011. She has participated as a mentor in the Person-to-Person program and as a frequent presenter at EPA conventions, which she has attended since 1990.

She’s now available via McDougall Editorial for freelance writing and editing, and the coaching of writers and editors: dianemcdougall.com

Eric K. Thomsen

Eric K. Thomsen has been the managing editor of ONE Magazine since the publication’s launch in 2005. He spent the previous decade at Randall House Publications (now known as D6 Family Ministry). He was a co-chair of the 2013 Nashville convention. He served six years on the EPA board including a term as president (2017-2019). Thomsen has received multiple EPA awards in various categories, including both the editorial and standing column divisions. A student of church history, Eric published To Honor Our Heritage in 2023, served as editor of the thousand-page Free Will Baptist Convention Sermons (2011) and authored the script of Honoring Our Heritage, a 2010 video documentary exploring the 400-year history of Free Will Baptists, the denomination he serves.

Mark Winz

Mark has been an integral part of EPA since joining the staff of Campus Crusade’s Worldwide Challenge in 1993 (now Cru Storylines). Over the years he has filled the roles of writer, managing editor, editor in chief and project manager for Worldwide Challenge/Cru Storylines. He attended his first of many conventions in 1995, serving on multiple convention planning committees including chairing the committee once. He was first elected to the EPA board in 2009, chaired the contest committee for three years during the transition to a digital contest platform, and then was EPA President in 2015-2017.
